Films/TV shows that you prefer to the books they're based on
Fight Club is the only one I can think of.

Loved the film, really well made, thought the book was boring and just kept repeating the same point over and over again that wasn't even that profound or original (that we're all consumerist robots blah blah blah), well may have been a new idea in mid 90s but isn't now.

Any more?

Children of Men.

While entertaining enough, PD James' book was a bit of a plodder. The film is excellent with updated themes and amazing cinematography. In fact, I'm going to pull it out of the DVD collection this week and have another watch.

Didn't the books come after the films?

Star Wars. Probably. No-one seems to read the books.

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas

I loved the book. It's excellent. It's just Depp's and particularly Del Toro's performances were so good that the film topped the book. As much as I can imagine well, I could never have pictured Del Toro's lawyer like he did it, just from having read the book.

Reading books is just too hard!

Especially if there's no pictures.

Fred, totally agree.

Read one and thought I'd picked up a bad example of them, read one more and that was it...

Wallander (the Henriksson Swedish one) is the best police drama I've seen and the only Mankell I've read was mediocre at best

Agree - I've read most of the James Bond books and the films are much better

Been told in the past several Bond films/books fall into this category.

Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me and Apt Pupil

all released in the same book of 4 short stories by Stephen King.

Which meant that come filming for once pretty much nothing gets left put that was in the book

Game of Thrones.

The early books were great but really tailed off. In contrast, the show has got better and better so, for me, has overtaken the books.

Fight Club is one of only 2 films (Other was Chaplin) I've ever walked out of the cinema of, as I found it so shit. Odd I suppose as everyone else loves it.

Watched again since and found it shit still!

The book is good but the filming of BoB is amazing especially the clips with the actual veterans.
